I. Project Introduction
This project is located in a National Cultural and Creative Park, covering 2,500 square meters with a site height of 4.9 meters. Its theme, “Prosperous Tang Dynasty·Children’s Dream Chang’An,” creates a unique custom playground design for children aged 2-12. This space is not only a play paradise but also an immersive experience blending historical culture with modern entertainment.
II. Design Concept
This custom playground design takes inspiration from the only female emperor in Chinese history as its central IP, deeply integrating local Tang Dynasty culture to craft an immersive play environment.
The design allows children to experience the “political and military” spirit of the Tang Dynasty through interactive games, combining education with fun. Modern technology enhances engagement, ensuring kids enjoy historical culture while gaining knowledge and joy—an innovative approach in custom playground design.
III. Functional Areas
This project is quite ingenious in spatial narrative and functional division. It is divided into the former dynasty (dynamic area) and the harem (static area), which symbolize “military” and “politics” respectively.
(I) Former Dynasty (Dynamic Area – Symbolizing ‘Military’) – High Adventure Course & Arcade
Focused on the Tang Dynasty’s military spirit, this custom playground design features high-altitude obstacle courses, arcade competitions, and rock climbing. Children can release their energy here, exercise courage and balance in high-altitude expansion, feel speed and passion in video game competition, break through their own limits in rock climbing challenges, and personally experience the heroic spirit of the prosperous Tang Dynasty.
(II) Harem (Quiet Area – Symbolizing ‘Politics’) – Soft Play Area
This area mainly displays the etiquette, art and life of the Tang Dynasty, and plans cultural experience areas such as role-playing (Tang suit experience), traditional tea ceremony learning, and Tang music workshop (musical instrument experience). Children can wear exquisite Tang suits and transform into little talents or little beauties of the Tang Dynasty. They can comprehend the charm of tea ceremony in traditional tea ceremony learning, feel the beauty of ancient music in the Tang music workshop, and deeply understand the cultural heritage of the prosperous Tang Dynasty.
In addition, the project also focuses on parent-child interaction and designs interactive links in which parents can participate deeply. For example, the fun knowledge answering and passing of the “Tang Dynasty Imperial Examination” simulates the fun knowledge answering and passing the level, and parents and children participate together to learn knowledge in joy; there is also a parent-child theme restaurant that creates a “palace banquet” atmosphere, so that family members can enhance emotional connection and cultural sharing while enjoying food.
At the same time, technological empowerment is also a highlight of this project. The introduction of modern technological gameplay such as AR somatosensory interaction, projection poetry wall, digital shadow play, etc., revitalizes traditional culture in a novel and interesting form, greatly enhances the attractiveness of the space and the level of interactive experience, and allows children to gain different fun in the collision of technology and culture.
